Missouri City - Sugar Land Chapter
In July of 1975, Mrs. Gladys Waddy founded the Chasewood-Briargate Mothers Club in Southwest Houston. The club consisted of more than 60 families. Their goal was to link with an organization that would provide culturally rewarding activities for their children. On September 25, 1975, they submitted an application for a new chapter with Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated. On November 20, 1975, they were accepted as a Provisional Chapter. In Denver, Colorado, during the National Convention in July 1976, the Provisional Chapter was accepted as the Missouri City Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated.
The chapter installation was held on September 20, 1976 at the Ramada Inn Southwest in Houston, Texas. The installing officers were: Barbara Williams (National Editor) and Erma W. Hines (South Central Regional Director). The initial membership consisted of 41 mothers and 95 children. The Chapter’s name was later changed to the Missouri City/Fort Bend County Chapter. After reviewing the growth areas of the chapter’s membership, the chapter voted in May 2008 to rename the chapter, the Missouri City - Sugar Land Chapter. The resolution of the name change was approved in July at the 58th National Convention held in Miami, Florida
